Big Beautiful Doll, P-51 Mustang
‘Big Beautiful Doll' was the legend on a P-51 of the 78th F.G. based at Duxford, England. Its pilot was the 78th FG’s C.O. Lt. Col. John D. Landers, an Ace with 14.5 aerial victories and 20 ground. In more recent years, in honour of USAAF service personnel, a P-51 in Col. Landers’ markings had been a regular and very popular participant in Duxford’s spectacular air displays. That warbird is no more, but its name lives on, in thousands of airshow visitors’ fond memories.
