Lafayette Escadrille

The famous North American Indian-Warrior symbol of the Escadrille Lafayette – a French fighter squadron formed in 1916 for volunteer pilots from the USA. The name is in honour of Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette a French aristocrat who fought in the American Revolutionary War against the British.
